January 7, 2018 – Pastor Jon Spallino, Lead Pastor

Jesus tells his followers that they are the Salt of the Earth and Light of the World. He challenges all of us to live in a way that we are effectively living out the Sermon on the Mount. The result will be movement of people loving, caring, and encouraging one another in this faith journey so that we can reflect the goodness and glory of God.

MATTHEW 5:13-16

13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

1. How do I fulfill my calling as “salt” in my school, workplace, neighborhood, and community (5:13)?

2. Do people in my school, workplace, and neighborhood know that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ? In what ways have I communicated this to those who know me?

3. Is the focus of my life to bring God glory (5:16)? How have I let my light shine this week to the glory of God?

“The Bible tells us to be the light of the world, not the light of the Church. So get out there and light up the world with Christ’s love and affection.” Pastor Jon Spallino
